Description: ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION Since 1939, United Abrasive, Inc. has been recycling abrasive made products, such as grinding wheels, stones, segments, etc, to recover the valuable abrasive grains {high purity synthetic forms of fused aluminum oxide (95% minimum purity), and black or green silicon carbide (99% minimum purity)}. The waste material is shipped to us on pallets, cardboard boxes, metal boxes or bins, 55-gallon drums, fiber kegs, or in bulk dump loads. The quantities range from single pallets up to 5,000 pounds, half truck loads, or full truck loads up to 45,000 pounds. The sizes and shapes of the scrap material is diverse, ranging in size, from small, less than 1 inch pieces, to large, over 60 inch diameter pieces. We produce 7 different types of abrasive grain that have very different properties. Because of this, we must manually separate them into the various types. The material is put into bins, boxes, 55-gallon drums, or on pallets to prepare for crushing. When enough of one type is separated, it is loaded into a jaw crusher and conveyed to another crusher. The material is crusher until all the pieces are reduced to less than 1/32 inch, and stored in a large bin. The crushed material is ran through our process, and classified into individual size grains. We package the sized material in bags, boxes, bulk, drums, etc., put it on a pallet, secure it with stretch wrap, and load the pallets on a truck.
